Path of History: Monterey Walking
Tour
A
two mile path through downtown Monterey. The tour
starts at the Maritine Museum directly across from
Fisherman's Wharf
Carmel
Mission
Built
in 1771, it is one of two Basilicas on the west
coast. Father Junipero Serra founded the mission
and is buried on it's grounds.
Fisherman's
Wharf
Located
in the heart of Monterey. Listen to the sea lions
as you stroll along the pier shopping, dining and
enjoying the bay.
Monterey Recreational
Trail
This
trail will lead you around the bay from Seaside to
Pacific Grove. You'll go right past fisherman's
Wharf, Cannery Row, the Aquarium, Lover's Point
and end up by Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach. It is
perfect for a walk, bike ride, roller skating or a
nice long jog.
Cannery
Row
John
Steinbeck brings it to life in many of his
stories. It once was home to many sardine
canneries and many savory characters. Now it is
filled with fine shops, restaurants, galleries, a
huge carousel and ends at the Aquarium. The
Aquarium was once one of the largest canneries on
the Row.
Point Lobos
Reserve
"the
greatest meeting of land and water in the world".
It is an ecological reserve located just 3 miles
south of Carmel on Highway one along the ocean.
Hiking is a favorite in this
spot.
